About the Instructor
License to Carry Courses
Stephen D. Powell, President of Patriot Outdoors, is a USAF veteran with over 17 years of combined federal, military, and civilian law enforcement experience.
During this time as a USAF Security Police/Forces member, he was tasked with executive and resource protection; protecting many US and foreign diplomats and dignitaries as well as US Senators and Congressmen. He also served as a member of multiple Emergency Service Teams and a team leader of a Counterterrorism Hostage Rescue Team. As a narcotic investigator with the USAF Office of Special Investigations, he conducted felony level investigations, drug interdiction, surveillance and numerous search & seizure operations.
Throughout his tenure he has gained specialized training and experience from the FBI Academy, US Army Special Forces and various Federal, State & local level agencies for Special Reaction Team, Counter Assault Team operations and advanced marksmanship.
He is currently an approved firearms instructor for New Mexico Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas DPS (TCOLE) also a Texas certified instructor for LTC and a Sig Sauer Academy Master Firearms Instructor. Over the past 18 years, Stephen has conducted firearms and tactics training for civilian, military units, federal agencies, and state/local departments. In addition to being a defensive tactics instructor in Krav Maga & Baton, he is also a certified armorer.
DEFENSIVE CARBINE I
The purpose of this class is to build upon your current carbine skills and improve your confidence to properly utilize your carbine in a defensive situation. You will reinforce the fundamentals and build the skills necessary to become a safe and competent shooter. The class will take place completely on the range with emphasis on proper technique and accuracy first. We are confident that we will bring you out of your comfort zone and assist you in achieving better accuracy and muscle memory.
This class is designed for women who are new handgun owners or who have no prior formal firearms training. The handgun fundamentals class provides you with the knowledge and skills to confidently and safely handle a firearm. The class divides time between the range and the classroom. At the end of this course you will be able to understand and demonstrate proper firearm handling and safety. You will accomplish being proficient at the basic fundamentals of marksmanship. This is a fun and relaxed course setting designed for confidence building.

Pistols will not be needed or allowed for the classroom portion of the course
